I finished my revisions. Again.
I'll get a couple of copies printed and delivered where they need to go for reading and proofing. I'll let my copy sit for a few days and try to step out of the headspace of Tierney Cavanaugh Johnson, as hard as that may be. There's a lot of me in her. Her head is, in some ways, my head. But there's also a lot that's fiction.
When I started this project, to write about my crazy journey of self-discovery, I intended it to be non-fiction. Given the massive weight loss and the health changes and the amount of baggage I had to unpack to even start to deal with those things, I was often asked about what drove me to make those changes. Honestly, I got tired of talking about it and thought it would be easier to write.
But the story was limited. There were things that didn't make sense if you didn't live in my life and in my head. (That's a cacophonous place to be, so maybe you should be glad you're not there all the time.) So it was suggested that I fictionalize it.
I went back to some characters I'd started writing a couple of years ago, in what was the original Junkture story. I repurposed them for this, and it worked beautifully. There was a confluence of energy that lent Tierney and Alex Wheeler and the rest of the band to this story.
But every time I think I'm done, something comes along and whispers quietly that I should tweak it one more time.
Hopefully this will be the last major rework. There will be typos and inconsistencies to fix, errors to rectify. But the cover art has been mostly decided. It will soon be time to format and finalize the details that will bring this project to fruition. And then I'll be on to the next story.
In the meantime, I will wait for the inner circle to patiently read one more time. I will let it sit, let Tierney rest, then wake her to have her tell me her story yet again, so I can make sure I get it right.
She and I may be napping for the ne xt few days. And listening to lots of music. If you can't reach us, it's because we likely can't hear you with our earbuds in our ears. Just give us a day or two. We'll catch back up soon.
